Summerhill 3-13
Walterstown 0-10
The Summerhill Intermediate Ladies team made it two wins from two in this year’s Kepak Meath LGFA Intermediate Championship thanks to a 12-point victory away to Walterstown on Thursday evening.
It was a superb all-round performance from start to finish as they now set up a winner takes all clash against St Michael’s in the final round of fixtures.
Summerhill started like a house on fire as they had five points on the board inside the first eight minutes. Aoife Carey and two points each from the returning Aisling McCabe and centre-forward Kate Flynn put Summerhill in pole position early on.
Waltertown’s first point came after nine minutes before took over again and scored 2-2 without reply.
McCabe took her tally to three points while Michelle Brien and Ella Reilly combined for Brien to rattle the back of the net. Four minutes later, Summerhill had a second goal as Megan Lyons played Gracie Grehan through on goals and she made no mistake with her finish. Flynn raised her third white flag of the evening as Summerhill led 2-7 to a single point after 19 minutes.
Walterstown finished the half with four points unanswered with Summerhill having an eight-point lead at half-time, 2-7 to 0-5.
Walterstown opened the second-half’s scoring before Aoife Carey and a fourth point from McCabe still had Summerhill in a great position. Summerhill kept the scoreboard ticking every time Walterstown would reply down the other end as Grehan and Carey added a point each. Two frees from Walterstown got them back within eight points, but Summerhill scored another 1-2 to make sure of the result. Ciara Flaherty and a remarkable fifth point from McCabe was followed with a third goal, this time from Robyn Larkin as Grehan was the provider this time around.
Summerhill will face St Michael’s on Wednesday, August 27, with the winner securing a semi-final place while the loser will finish in second-place and be into a quarter-final.
